Prettiness. Art and Fashion.

Pretty art I came across while shopping at Holt Renfrew downtown Calgary. I love Holt Renfrew and all the pretty clothes I get to gawk at. And I love pretty art. I'm not sure who the artist is since I forgot once I walked away from reading it at the store, but I enjoyed it while I was shopping. I love it when Art and Fashion come together.

Michael Thompson

Michael Thompson is a prestigious fashion photographer whose work is absolutely stunning! Myself, already being infatuated with the fashion world and beautiful images, I am captivated by these exquisite portrayals. I am still so in love with MT. These photos are from his current exhibition shown in the Hasted Hunt gallery. To see more of his artistic work click here.

SHARIE ABRAMSON

Last night I went to Sharie Abramson's gallery opening with some girlies downtown at the Auburn. I was intrigued by Sharie Abramson's work when I saw the poster (above) for her show on calgaryisawesome.com and wanted to go and check it out. Sharie was there and went around to all the tables to introduce herself and talk about her work. Yay! She uses acrylic paint and builds her own canvases out of wood. She also mentioned briefly the emotion she puts into all her pieces. I didn't get to ask her too much since there was a huge crowd of us. (Side observations: She was also fabulous with long blonde hair, a killer outfit, and a raspy voice). BUT Calgary is Awesome did an interview with Sharie where she talked about her art. She said,
"My work is an abstract fusion of the prairies and the fervid lifestyle of an urban designer. Viewers will notice a transition in style in my work as I’ve pushed myself beyond typical boundaries. My work encompasses the techniques of today’s contemporary artists juxtaposed with the aesthetics of mid-century modernism. My palette is at one point dark but then colourful and unimposing."
Yay i love her work. I'm particularly intrigued by how she handles colour in her pieces. There is emotion that is projected through her work... i got an instinct that there is more that meets the eye. I had the emotion of curiosity. There is an organic nature about her work mixed with the rawness of modernism. To check out more of her work click here. These are some of my favourites...
